DLR received an email from the Bastrop Chamber of Commerce asking for 150 items to fill the new teacher bags in Bastrop ISD. DLR was able to give 150 Flamingo Face Wax Kits by Harry's donated from Good360 for these new 150 teachers along with several encouraging Bible Verse Cards for the teachers to look at throughout their first year of teaching.
This encourages the new teachers during their first year at Bastrop ISD schools. This is aiding in the depression and discouragement many of these teachers feel. "We support teachers in our community and want to show them some love in a small but practical way. The teachers will struggle during their first year of teaching but we pray they will be uplifted by these kits and encouragement from God's Word as they are offered hope through Jesus Christ an His ultimate Gift." -Samantha Medina, Disciple Learner Resources, Director of Community Engagement I am so grateful one of the kits has a Bible verse that says "But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." Isaiah 40:31 That is what these teachers are reminded of every day they go to teach these children. - Jesse Medina, Disciple Learner Resources, President DLR is so grateful to have partnered with Passion Week Revival in Bastrop TX. We were able to give away hundreds of Christian books and Bibles to the community free of charge.
There were so many people that said they did not have Bibles and needed them. ![]() We purchased 200 New Testament Bibles for the nonprofit Encourage Ministry located in Houston, Texas founded by Thuda Renee Keys. In January and March of 2023 We Were Featured in 2 News Articles in Smithville, TX![]() JANUARY 2023 ARTICLE: On December 20, 2022, the Helping Hands of Hope celebrated Christmas by distributing gifts that were provided by a nonprofit organization called Disciple Learner Resources. Our relationship with this organization began with one of our first clients, Samantha Medina. After her son Luke was born by c-section, Pastor Cindy Layton heard that neither Samantha nor her husband were able to pick up pain medication. Pastor Cindy volunteered and drove to Bastrop, picked up the medicine and delivered it to her house. From that time on, Samantha has been a client and has worked hard to promote the Helping Hands of Hope to people she meets that are in need of diapers, baby clothes and other items that we have. The Methodist Ladies, Sidney Beenken, Lonni Milner, and the Busy Bees graciously provided refreshments for the event and stayed to greet people and corral children. We served 11 families for Christmas and each family was given diapers and baby wipes and were offered baby clothes, bibs, baby hats, bottles and other baby items as needed. Through Disciple Learner Resources, we gave age appropriate toys that were provided by Toys for Tots, a stocking filled to overflowing and a can of popcorn from Ivy’s Treasures Stocking for each child. A handmade quilt or Afghan donated by Linus Connection was also given to each child. Angel Tree requests were fulfilled by the wonderful congregation of our church. Samantha told me that if it weren’t for you, many of the identified teenagers would not have received gifts! Each family was prayed for individually, given Bibles for the adults and children. It was truly a joy and a blessing to provide Christmas cheer and prayer for these families. MARCH 2023 ARTICLE:

We have received Free Kid Meal coupons that we can add to our giveaway bags. We had a great Christmas Giving Program for 2022. The recipients were truly blessed and appreciative. Every person received presents for their children from Toys for Tots, a filled stocking overflowing from Ivy's Treasures Stockings for each child, a handmade blanket for each child from The Linus Connection, extra gifts, the teenagers were given presents sponsored by The Methodist Church in Smithville, families in need of Christmas Eve dinner are being made by The Texas Firewalkers in Rosanky, families were prayed over and given Bibles for adults and children. Most families were in tear and very emotional during the praying and hugging after they received their gifts. It was truly our joy and pleasure to be there to minister and pray with these families. Our 3 volunteers at the event were a pillar of strength for the success of God's Word and ministry to come through. Thank you to all the volunteer support and love for these families and continuous prayer. Meet One of The FamiliesOne of the families had been struggling with depression and emotionally distant from reality as the Christmas holiday approached. Samantha spent several hours during the weeks leading up the the Christmas event ministering to the mother on the phone and giving Christ-like encouragement. One day when the mother felt hopeless and her power had just gotten turned off, Samantha was able to connect another ministry that helps with utility bills so her power could get turned back on. The connection was successful and her power was back on in only a few days. Her demeanor changed and the mother began decorating for Christmas in preparation of the Christmas presents she would receive at the DLR Christmas Program.
Upon arriving at the DLR Christmas present pickup, she was so excited and could not believe all the goodies she received for her children. After the families "shop" for their children's presents they are required to talk to one of the people at DLR to pray with them and receive their family gift from us. She went to receive her family gift and was so excited to get a children's bible, along with other discipleship resources. We had the opportunity to pray for her it was on time for her as she was baptized at Calvary Baptist Church Smithville 16 years ago and was needing prayer. Healing happened for her and she walked away at peace with God and herself. Our 1 year old baby was putting his hand on her shoulder while we prayed and after the prayer she said she "felt chained falling off her and the devil no longer had a hold on her." Talk about God's miracles! |
